Maybe when DirectConnect is available for PTLE... I'd love to try Alkali with PTLE, but....no DirectConnect yet. Digi is supposedly ironing out the last few bugs in it. Maybe when 5.1 ships? ------------------ LW
So, let's see... I get LESS connectivity from a more powerful DIGIDESIGN hardware product that cost me $1100 than I would have from a cheaper software product rom someone else? Lame. Always good to see Digi techs choosing competing products! Is DirectConnect with SC *THAT* hard to pull off? Doesn't make much sense, does it guys?
Just wondering if it is the Sample Cell Direct Connect support that is delaying release of Direct Connect in general ? // Joakim W ------------------ >>We need more time so that everything doesn't happen at once<<

My apologies guys...I read this as AKAI, as in the samplers! I was not aware of the product you're actually talking about! Sorry. I know there is a TDM link for SC, but my understanding is that other host-based software samplers will allow this using DirectConnect. Yes, It would be nice to have this option with an 001 system (and doesn't sound too far-fetched to me). Since DirectConnect is going to be possible with LE, you must not be gearin soley for the higher end pro market (i.e. only TDM). My SC card is a little noisy and tying up analog ins I need on the 001. Of course I know nothing about engineering this stuff, but it would seem that since the 001's PCI card does all the I/O and it's right next to my SC card outs, that the 2 could be INSIDE the machine and while digital. But what do I know? Obviously, not as much as I think!
Yes, in fact it's not possible without modification to the hardware to get the 8 audio streams from the SampleCell card to the PCI bus (then into DirectConnect). SampleCell was designed to allow you to get these audio streams from the SampleCell card to a TDM ProTools system, and it does this quite well. SampleCell and Alkali aren't exactly competing products in that regard. -Paul Vercellotti Digi Engineering
