This could probably go into any of the DivX5, GKnot and VirtualDub forums. I'm encoding a DVD Rip with DivX5.02 and GKnot 0.26. GKnot calculates that the video bitrate should be 844kBit/s. I do a 2pass encode, but all 3 times I've tried it, it comes out at exactly 470kBits (estimated by Gspot). I've tried with and without "Recalculate Bitrate". I've even tried setting the Bitrate to 1600, so it might undersize it closer to the size I want, but it still doesn't work. Help.

could it be your movies is very compressible? Is it small resolution or very dark? You may have hit the maximum, although it seems unlikely at such a low bitrate

It seems like your movie is something like Matrix, Planet OF The Apes or some other movie that compress really well.. You may try uncheck B-frames to get a bigger file, but you won't increase quality... I had the same problem with these movies and the only solution was 1pass-quality encoding at quant 1... if output file with that setting is too big, you may try 2pass with lower maximum quantizer...

Thanks for the help. I should have mentioned that the film is "The Others" and it does have a lot of dark scenes. I think I'll stick with the file I have and use the extra space on the CD for 5.1 audio.
