Hi, I have the HD3 with 192 I/O. What is the best way to record a brass section, I need to record a salsa band. Which mic's do u preferred?

I second those Ribbon mics. I also like M88's (Dynamics) on horns. A reasonable compromise would be Beyer M160's (ribbons). Using API (or similar) Mic pre's help to take the edge off, if you have to use standard condensers.

Yeah, the Royer's are awesome. I forget what engineer/producer, but there was an article in Royer's newsletter with some cool pictures at a studio with their microphones all over the place recording a big ole jazz band. I've used the Royers a few times on live brass at my church and got a great sound to say the least. As the other poster said if you don't have these microphones, there are other options obviously. I must say that for inexpensive mics for brass, I picked up a set of Rode NT5's just for something cheap in case they disappeared or got dropped (live sound).... wow, they are darn good little mics for this and very affordable.

I agree completely with Tubajay, but I really like M49's on Sax's.
