Hi With the MOT rapidly approaching (Doesn't seem like 2 mins since it was last done!), I need to get my handbrake fixed. It was listed as an advisory at the last MOT and I havn't exactly made huge efforts to get it fixed, but towing my caravan back last week, I relised that it now NEEDS to be done. The handbrake doesn't really hold the car that well now, and will most certainly fail this next MOT. Im going to be booking it into the local garage (I trust them), to do the work. This is the same place that will be doing the upcoming MOT. Now looking on GSF, i see: V73180 HANDBRAKE CABLE 740 All 88> LH 23.50 V73184 HANDBRAKE CABLE 740 All 88> RH 9.50 Now a few questions 1) Im assuming these are the items i need. 2) why is the left hand cable double the price of the right hand cable 3) Again im assuming i need BOTH the cables, and not just the one? Many thanks, im looking to order ASAP!
What leads you to believe its the handbrake cables that are at fault?? Have they snapped?? There is an adjuster underneath the rear ashtray to take up any slack/stretch in the cables. I would try adjusting that first. If it fails effieceny wise but with the help of assistant to look under the car as you pull the handbrake, if the cables show enough throw on them, i would consider replacing the handbrake shoes, as i've often found poor efficency with 700 series handbrakes is down to knackered shoes inside the drum.
Thats a very kind offer - May well take you up on that, However id like to know for sure what the problem is beforehand. Any easy way to know for sure? Im quite friendly with the local mechanic, so im guessing he would be able to tell fairly easily?
