these seem to all be freehand approaches. is there an actual default height? can it be restored other than approximately with a freehand technique? thanks, BabaG
with the @ key all the tracks are set to the minimum height, then page up 4 times and there you are. Default height. I made a custom action for you that do it in one keystroke. It's in the attachements. You had to assign the shorcut.

thanks for this. can i find the number for 'selected tracks' and substitute it for 40727 to avoid having all tracks reset to minimum. and, now that i think of it, i'm guessing i'd need to change the one that repeats for times to the number for 'selected tracks' as well. thanks again, BabaG

My pleasure babag. Sorry but i didn't understand what you say in the last coment, my english is very limited. I'm curious about that number 40727, what does it mean? And if you want, you can try to explain again what are you triying to achieve whit that modifications, maybe i can grasp it this time. And Fladd, you are right, it's clunky and unintuitive. You had to like to work this way, and had to like the miriad of options and the customization. For example, putting 1,2, or 3 more, or 1 or 2 less pages up in the custom action i made for babag, i can set all tracks to any height i want and assign it to any shortcut i want. I like that. But at the same time understand why its complicated. I think you had to like computers and nerdi stuff to make the most of reaper, unlike other daws, whit other philosophy.
I am all for customisability, but that doesn't exclude having sensible defaults! Those two things are entirely orthogonal. Reaper is great at the first, but seriously lacks at the latter.

let's be realistic here, though. reaper does have defaults for track height. if you start a new project the tracks start at a certain height. it doesn't ask you for every little thing, like 'what track height would you like this project to use?' it just adds the tracks. i don't think it's unreasonable to expect that setting to be remembered and retrievable. allowing for it to be changed to a new default value is a good thing but i think many users just start working with whatever the program gives them and learn to adapt and modify as time goes on. not remembering things like default values makes reaper appear clunky, unpolished, and confusing to many i'm afraid. while it may not actually BE those things, it could be creating a perception that is undesired. it may be creating the impression that users are FORCED to customize when they don't expect to have to. forcing people to do things can tend to piss them off which is probably not the intention of developers..
