Can anyone offer advice before I return my Digi 001. I have a Dell pentium 3, 500mhz, 256mb ram. I have several sound cards installed on my system. WHen I try to launch Pro Tools, i get a memory parity error message and my system freezes. If I reload windows and then reinstall the 001, it works. However, if I use any other programs, i revert back to the same problem. Tech support cant help, can anyone else? Thanks for the help.
I could be mistaken, but that sounds a little like a bad memory chip. If so, it could be that it simply isn't getting hit until your memory usage is high enough (like when you open PT). I had a real small PC 10 years ago that was freezing with a parity error. That turned out to be bad ram. Tom
Tom, Thanks for the input...took me a while to check back here. I checked my ram and its fine, I think its just a matter of the fact that I am using my Dell for alot of other applications and the 001 only appears to work on a PC thats dedicated for the purpose of audio. All the other programs cause major conflict issues. Needless to say, the 001 is sadly back on the shelves of the guy I bought it from. Now thinking of buying a G4 just for the 001 cause the short time I had it, I loved it (currently using Cakewalk Pro Audio). So Sad.

Drastik, thanks it sounds like that is exactly the problem. When I bought the system, it had a 56K modem (with the drivers of course) and a montego sound card, I installed a Digital Audio Labs card for Cakewalk, so I had all these devices and drivers on the system. When I took em all out, and reinstalled the Digi, it worked great. Unfortunately, I needed the modem and the DAL card until I mixed down all my audio and finally got rid of cakewalk. The answer is either removing everything, reformatting the hard drive and using only the Digi...or dedicating another system for audio...which is probably the best way to go... Will check out the link you gave me, thanks
quote:
Originally posted by drastikpup: The problem with parity is in the bios there is non-parity and parity ram it means self checking ones and zeros to line up with CPU and data streaming. Other cards in the sytem like modem wave devices, cheapy onboard card drivers will confuse the digi-001 and the PC will fight itself to see with one is the master. The problem is too many sound cards with too many audio drivers and cheap dell ram get a drastik custom system designed for a digi-001 and your problems are over macs are a good $1000 more than these sweet Power setups

dcornutt, thanks. I am comfortable with the PC platform but always wanted to get a mac. (plus they look cool). Unfortunately, like most people, dough is tight, so im not sure which way im going to go. I may have to stick with the PC that I have and just strip it down and reformat the drive and maybe add a 2nd drive. Well see...Thanks all for the input.
