A colleage of mine running the same system as mine, but on a G5, he is experiencing this intermittend problem. We've tried everything, delete prefs, restard ECT..., after a while it seems to fix it self, or he fixes it without knowing what he did ( accidently hitting a shortcut key, or something). Here's the problem. When he presses play, the graphics dont move, all that happens is this little gray window appears in the left hand top corner saying. "press spacebar to stop playback" what is this?

have you buy any chance quickeys installed on your CPU? If so - check to see if you have made another play short key for it... Maybe it is somehow conflicting with PT... A gray window in the top left corner sounds like Quickeys to me
