ITB or Molest the Knobs?

This goes out to people who primarily mix ITB. Do you guys find it easier to compress vocals as they're coming in using an external comp or chain? Or are most of you a fan of recording straight in, totally raw at a slightly lower level...and then use a software comp later?

With the fabulous signal to noise ratio we have to work with these days, I don't feel the need to use a compressor on the way in any more. This of course allows greater freedom down the road. I do, however, always compress the cans feed, so the singer has a compressed sound to work with -- same with reverb of course.

Yeah I sometimes put a little bit of my RNLA on the incoming signal. Usually do actually. Makes it sound good. What the hell...live a little.
