I am having the strangest problem with my ProTools rig lately and am having a hard time figuring out what it even is. Quickly, my specs: I'm running 6.2.3 off a firewire drive on a single processor G5, going through a 96 interface. The problem, essentially, is a bizarre "gurgly" effect that is showing up on audio when I track it. It's intermitent, and sometimes is much more audible than others. Sometimes I'll track stuff into the same session on different days, and the "gurgle" will be there one day not there the next. I can't tell if it is a clocking issue or a bit-rate problem. Indeed, I'm not enough of an expert to be able to spot such an issue. I'm wondering if it maybe some sort of virus thing, as I never had a problem with it until I opened up some sessions that had been recorded elsewhere, which seemed to have the "gurgly" quality on their audio. Or maybe it's a problem with my computer or firewire drive? Has anyone encountered a problem such as this, and if so, what was the cause? PLEASE HELP! I just posted some "samples" of the gurgles on my website. Here are the URLs, if anyone's interested:
That is weird... out of curiousity, are there ever any plug-ins involved in these sessions? I ask because from time to time Izotope Vinyle, and a couple of others, give me a really odd sound that might be described as "gurgling". I usually just reset my converters....
Yeah, I just listened to the three samples you posted, and I don;t hear anything. There is some distortion on the first track, which is subtle, but I thought you might have meant that. The other two sound fine. Listen to these samples on another system. if you don't hear it, its your monitoring chain?
Hmmm. It's very subtle but becomes VERY noticeable when you listen to an entire track of it... Maybe if I point out particular words. In the first sample, notice specifically the word "welcome". On the second sample, note the word "thingie" and on the last sample, the word "hope". They all have this weird sorta skip in them. I know I'm hearing it. But maybe I'm bonkers.

Dude, I listened VERY closely - albeit on my computer's speakers, but I'm not hearing anything excpet on the first track, where it sounds like distortion all the way through. Try listening on a different system, and see if you still hear it?
what systems are you guys listening on? i hear it on every single one... its very slight but it does sound like a little hiccup. its a round sound not like a when you chop a wave in the wrong spot. one of them sounds like when you get a bubble in your throat and it pops in the middle of a word. i can hear it on my v8s, my computer speakers, auratone, and headphones

Yeah, I have listened on other systems and it's there. Thanks for the support Kraftrourke. You da best. This is why I'm having a hard time figuring out what it is... it's not even that noticeable on first listen.
