Hi, I am in the market for a software drum module to use with PT LE and DP4. I have been looking at Fxpansion's BFD, but now the creators of Drum Kit From Hell (DFH) just launched a similar product that look pretty good. They both seem to have advantages like BFD being RTAS, AU and Rewire compatible. While DFH Superior is only VST and Rewire. On the other hand DFH has 35 GB worth of samples versus BFD only has 9 GB. But in the end it is all about how they sound and well they integrate with your DAW. So guys and girls any experiences from users of any of this products? Thanks in advance...

Hi, Bear in mind that FXpansion is just about to release the "BFD XFL" expansion pack for BFD, which takes it in to the 30+GB territory, and there will be further expansion packs after that. Best regards, Angus.

OK firstly I'll admit that I went and bought the DFHS (Sorry Angus). I might not have if I had known about the expansion pack coming but anyway I didn't. Second point is that if you want to use BFD properly and get all the multiple outputs you have to use rewire. The RTAS wrapper (which I imagine is the same technology as the VST to RTAS wrapper) will only give you stereo outs. So that being said you could do the smw thing to the DFHS with the Fxpansion's VST to RTAS wrapper. Right? Anyway the BFD does have a pretty cool interface that I would prefer but I wanted the 30+ gigs of sounds now, and like I said didn't know about the upcoming expansion pack. Plus what would the total cost be? DFHS = 239.00 .... BFD = 199.00 (+ expansion pack price) -Chuck

Hey Chuck, The stereo outs is a limitation of RTAS itself, not the BFD - which is why both BFD and DKFHS use ReWire to talk multi-channel to ProTools. While you could *in theory* wrap the Toontrack plugin with VST-RTAS, it really needs to have all its outputs bussed in to PT to work properly as, unlike BFD, it totally lacks an onboard mixer. BFD is $299 street, and the XFL expansion pack will most likely work out at $199 street, so while it's a more expensive option than the Toontrack, you do get the following:- * Play the full kit in realtime, thanks to the diskstreaming engine. * Onboard mixer, so you can work with stereo-only I/O * Onboard Groove Librarian, an advanced, MIDI-based rhythm machine * Hi-hat pedal support * A much nicer and prettier-looking interface * Further expansion packs planned - next up after the XFL will be the Tommy Lee signature expansion pack. Regards, Angus.
