So, I just installed Reaper and everything looks great until...the program will start playing a previously-recorded track and then STOP DEAD after a few seconds. After this, it will not start playing again no matter what. During this, the transport controls will still say "playing" and the play button will remain green. I can click "stop" and "play" again, but this has no effect on the sound. The cursor will also not move again after the initial freeze. It can be moved to the beginning or end of the track, but will not move during playback. I'm running a brand-new Dell desktop with 4 gigs of RAM, a fast processor, fast HD, the works. My interface is a Lexicon Omega with the most recent ASIO driver installed. I'm trying to play back only ONE track. No plugins or anything. Recording works fine. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Reaper. No effect. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
yeah....mine was doing that for awhile there. I had to keep downloading a new driver each time. It just freakin' disappeared completely. Weirdest thing. I haven't had that problem since I bought my new Ederal interface. I had a Fasttrack interface when it was happening to me.
Doughboy: you mean a new driver for your interface? I have the latest driver for my interface. Sheppola: That thread you directed me to has some good ideas, but the problem described there is for people getting no playback at all. Mine starts and just freezes. But I'm going to keep trying. Another note: Every time I open and close my "preferences" window, playback will unfreeze and I can play again. But then the problem just starts again. Still looking for a solution. Anyone else? Many thanks. The replies so far have been incredibly quick.
Yeah Krueger.......I would hit play....it would start and then just stop. From that point....it wouldn't play at all....seems like the buttons worked though....ya know, it wasn't completely frozen...but.....now music. Anyway.....Go to your Options, Preferences, Audio, Device. Are there any blanks in any of those boxes? If so....as near as I can tell.....there's something missing with the driver. That's what mine would do....soooo, I would go into the M Audio download site....and re download the same stinking driver again.....then...when I went into the Pref, Aud, Device....all of those blank slots would be filled back in with driver info....and it would work fine for a while. Now.....I never figured the real reason it did this....howthehellever, I had an M Audio Midi player with an M Audio driver, and this M Audio Fastrack with an M Audio driver......and someone mentioned that they may have been cancelling each other out. I don't know if that's right or not....but, I haven't had this problem since I switched interfaces......do you have something else that is a Lexicon or whatever you said your interface is? Just kickin' ideas around is all. This is a GREAT place to come for help....lot's of kick ass people with tons of knowledge.
Oh yeah....one more thought.....don't know if your using MIDI or what....or if it matters....but in the preferences click MIDI Devices.....there is a thing there called Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth. DISABLE THAT!!! That was one of the other possibilities I came up with.....don't ask me what the hell it is for....but, I guess it can screw up some things.

Also in Reaper start a new project and then use Reaper's Media Explorer(View/Media Explorer) and navigate to say an mp3 file and drag and drop that onto Reaper(It will make a new track) and see if it plays that?
