HI, just bought an R reg 1998 S40 2.0T CD and a warning light comes on from time to time. Its a green triangle with a sort of BLack upside down Y. Its located under the right hand of the 3 clocks under all the fuel consumption, distance etc clock. What would be handy is a URL or something where I can download or see what all the stuff on the dash does and or means, especially when warnings come on and I havn't a clue what they are or mean. I could be driving and its ruining my S40 and I wouldn't know. If its any help theres an orange backlight to the green triuangle and it could be a break pedal (the upside down Y looking thing). Its not on now again but still worries me if it comes back on. Really need a users manual or some help. Ta

It is the lambda sensor light - the lambda sensor is s sensor fitted in the exhaust that measures exhaust gas levels (i think)! I'm sure someone else on here can shed some more light onto this problem - sorry i couldn't be more helpful! Cheers & Merry Christmas

Okay a little more info - going from a Volvo 850 manual regarding the lambda sensor activating. According to the manual... 'Fault in the Engine Electronic System If this light stays on after the engine is started, a fault has been detected in the engine's fuel or ignition system. This could mean that the engine does not meet exhaust regulations. Have your car checked by a Volvo workshop.' I presume that this will be similar for your vehicle - but id wait for a fellow S40 owner to validate this from one of their owners manuals! Cheers

You need someone with a 1998 handbook - the 2000 model doesn't have a lambda light........

Just had a look in my book. This light is down as "fault in the engine electronic system". Basically it tells you a fault has been detected in the fuel or ignition system and you should have it checked by plugging it in to a diagnostic machine. Chris

Hi, As mentioned: Get to a dealer or good independant and have them read the stored error codes. Then you'll know where the system is going wrong... You may be charged for this service at a main dealers, and maybe also at some independants.. Des. . . ;)
