Hola , it seems after all i will have to buy a mac. Not that i was against it but im pretty broke. Anyways i know they have like "Sawtooth" and other types of motherboards. What is the differences and are any bad for the digi001. If i just buy a G4 at the store will i do ok? thanks for your help Ciao
I would strongly suggest a G4. It is absolutely powerful and smooth, and NEVER crashes. I have been able to do things I couldn't believe were possible from back in my Cakewalk-Gina-PC days! Here's my suggestion for a minimum config: G4 450mhz, 256mb Ram, extra HD for audio. You basically buy the G4, throw in the Digi card and you're up and running in minutes! No hassles!
NEVER Crashes? Must be nice... However, link is correct. I was up and running in about an hour after getting my 001. All G4 Macs made today have the Sawtooth logic board. You can even get some serious stuff done with the $1500 basic G4, but you should do the upgrades link mentions if at all possible - especially the RAM upgrade. ------------------ LW
Hi thanks for your help. The $1,500 off the shelf G4 is what i plan to get. I will also be getting another hard drive (EIDE ATA is ok ?) dedicated to audio. Just one more question-i bought a 128meg stick of PC-100 Ram for my computer to make it 192 megs. Can i take the 128meg stick out and slap it into my mac when i get it? I was told i could do this and it would be great if i could cause the mac ram i see people selling is twice the cost of PC-100 sticks. Thank you so much for your help Cheers
Peecasso. Dig into those deep pockets of yours and scrap out enough coinage to get a 500. Wait a few more weeks. There may be a speed upgrade and/or a price drop soon. Connect to Apple's site everyday. Do the custom add thing to fit your machine with the processor of choice ($650 add-on) You can live with 128 meg for a while. Add more later. You don't want to be processor poor in the 21st Century.
I'd advise an ultra wide SCSI hard drive, Glyphs are really nice ones, a 7200 RPM SCSI drive will be fine for 24 channels, but I'd advise the 10k RPM if you're planning to upgrade to a TDM system. I have a 10k RPM glyph hard drive, Digi001 on Mac G4 400mhz with 192 mb of RAM. It's TIGHT.
There are 128M RAM upgrades for sale for the G4 on outpost.com. I was about to buy a $1500 400Mhz G4 - does anybody have definite reason to think speeds are about to increase?
