Maybe this is a really stupid question, but why does Logic Audio offer 40+ tracks on the Digi 001 hardware, but PTLE is only 24 tracks? Is this a marketing decision on Digi's part or is it an inherent limitaion of the software due to processor overhead needs? Also, is PTLE scheduled to be optimized for AltiVec? I understand this will allow more FFT type functions (EQ's and comps) but won't really help out much in the time domain effects (reverb, delays). Or has it been optimized and I missed the annoucement? Robert Mokry Austin, TX

I think we should pressure Digi to optimize PT for the velocity engine as soon as possible. I know there are a lot of us with G4's. Come on Digi, get on the ball!!!!!!!

Sheesh....they've only got a million other things to deal with, I'm sure they'll get it out as soon as they can. Be happy with the system you've got for now, it's very powerful for the price, and someday soon, you'll get even more out of it with no additional investment. :-)

All I am saying is that it should be more of a priority. Logic Audio is optimized as is the BitHeadz line of soft synths. The G4's and digi001 have been out for nearly a year now, and there are no reports of when the software will be updated. We should'nt have to wait another year. Furthermore, I was getting more plug ins and a higher track count 2 yrs ago on a G3 and Cubase VST. That's not progress.

It sounds the lack of zeal for optimizing for AltiVec is more of a marketing decision than a lack of engineering ability on Digi's part. It appears that maybe this would make PTLE so powerful that more users would opt for this option as opposed to MIX systems, at least for music production. I'm curious to see if anyone from Digi responds to my query.

Although I love my 001,I tend to agree about the marketing thing! I also think that if anyone actually thinks that digi would ever make the 001 as powerfull as the tdm system are only fooling themselves! Read my post about 5.1 and that should clear up at least some of the questions! the digi rep did say that they probably would create software in the next year that would make use of the mp's but only for the tdm systems so they could also use the rtas plug's. As for the altivec,he said that the os 10 was more important to develope for pro tools first!

yo, for whatever it's worth, digidesign does get props from apple in the new macworld for their work to ready their apps for os X. i don't know if that's like a hard thing to get or what (apple's praise i mean). there you have it, mp
