i've seen the millions of posts about this particular issue. i've read and tried what seems to be everything. maybe i am missing a step though. i am working with an imac version 10.4.9 and i have a digi 002 with pt 7. all data is on a 300 gig lacie external hard drive. all the posts i've seen are complaints about pt 6.9 or lower. i tried the windows> workspace change the "t" to "p" or "r" thing; no dice. i tried uninstalling and reinstalling; uh uh. disk utilities was to no avail. please, if anyone can help i would greatly appreciate it. this is a HORRIBLE set back for me. i have a lot of work that i need to get done and i am sooooo stuck right now. thanks.
From Digi at the top of the DUC page 1. If you are receiving any errors regarding drives not being suitable for playback or not being an audio record volume, try the following: In Pro Tools, go to the Windows menu and select 'Show Workspace'. In the Workspace window you will see a list of your drives on the left and to the right of each drive will be an 'A'(for Audio) and a 'V'(for Video) column. Under the 'A' column next to your drive it will probably have a 'T'(for Transfer) or 'P'(for Playback) - click on the 'T' or 'P' and, from the drop down list, choose 'Record'. You should now be able to open, play and record in your session as normal. If your drive will not change to a Record volume, you may need to reformat the drive. On Mac OSX - use the Disk Utility to reformat the drive as Mac OS Extended.
thank you VERY much for the response. i tried everything you suggested and i am still having the same problems. is there anything else you suggest? do i need to upgrade to a higher version than 7.0? this all so frustrating because when you skip over the $600 cubase box and say, "hey, i'm gonna spend the $2200 and get the 'best'" you expect to have very minor problems. is there an actual number i can call for help? i live in japan right now, so i don't have the access to a store or any of my friends that could help me hands-on.
is the drive formated HFS+ ( MAC OS Extended if you get info on the drive) or NTFS/FAT32? on a MAC the drive must be formated HFS+ for Pro Tools to be able to use it. most drive out of the box are NTFS or FAT32
it is mac os extended, but i'm not sure where to find if it's hfs+ or the other one. can you tell me where to find it and where to change it if i need to? i also have another issue. i just uninstalled and reinstalled pt 7 into my computer. my digicore audio USED to open up with all my applications (ex. itunes, quicktime player, audio from the internet, etc...) now it only works when i open up reason 3.0 or aol instant messenger. i've checked my system pref. under sound and the digi 002 label doesn't show up anymore. any suggestions? thank you for everything.
Go to Utilities/DiskUtilities and click on the volume. At the bottom of the screen, it will tell you the format of the volume. Mine says, "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". Also, highlight the drive and do an "Apple/I" to see if you have permission to record to the drive.
