putney - your method isn't exactly the same thing, since it normalizes everything to the same percentage (all files would have the same peak level), rather than in ratio to the original files. i think this is a brilliant idea - yes, you could probably obtain the same results in some other fashion, but this seems to be a much more elegant way. i know i'd snap it up in a second. you should consider approaching some of these software developers directly to see if anyone is interested.
