I agree that there are a lot of features in Reaper that are difficult to get information about if you don't start off understanding them. But hiding them seems like a bad approach compared to explaining them. This forum is wonderful for getting an answer, but there's no reason to expect that answer to arrive exactly when it would be most useful. For example: I was trying to trim silent and low-volume sections out of a track last night and realized that the menu option for doing that had changed substantially since I'd been doing the same thing a few months ago. I was getting lousy results until I stumbled on the idea of changing the 'hysteresis' setting and then things started to come out as I expected. I understand the dictionary definition of that word while having no idea how it applied to audio. What I'd like to know is: where should I go to read about that option in that context and the effect of using various values there? (And not just that one, but also the next dialog or plug-in parameter that may keep me from getting the sound or processing effect that I need.)

Why not Simple/Advanced themes?

Wouldn't it be possible to implement specific themes for this? If themes could define also menus and their commands, Reaper could come with Simple and Advanced themes, in addition to the color and icon themes we have now... A n00bie (like me) would start with a Simple theme, with the absolute basics, and once that was mastered I could load an Advanced theme and explore that. Of course, deciding what features are Simple and Advanced, resp, is another matter... EDIT: The Wiki, BTW, now includes a Loop Source page,

Here is a thread very much along the lines of which you speak Fabian, to wit I alluded in my earlier post There are some awesome possibilities discussed here that could take Reaper to the next level... Not just menus, not just themes, but Modes! It's time to bump it again

a big problem is the context menus are not really context specific. Example Right click on the Record Monitoring button Then Rclick on the Rec Arm Then the Select recording mode Then the meter Then start right clicking on the Items, and empty areas, and timeline areas. They are not context menus. Context menus show specific options specifically for the object you right click.

Hi Fabian- So sorry! You added the Loop Source info to the Wiki, and I credited the wrong person (not that nicholas is a "wrong person"...). Lordy, I have to get some sleep! :) -Susan

Maybe it's time for short Reaper guides to specific topics, so that things could be covered in more depth. It's seems difficult to fit everything in Reaper into one big Guide.
