I am stumped. This is a plea for help. I just took a mix 3 system out of a quicksilver 733 and installed it into a dual 867. The 867 previously had a d24 and a Mix Farm installed and was flawless. Now with the Mix 3 installed it will not boot. Sounds like it boots but the monitor will not start up. If I take out the 3rd digi card it boots just fine. With the 3rd digi card in slot 3 it will randomly not boot. What up? I tried 5 different farms in all combinations. Same results if in slot 3. If I skip slot 3 and put it in slot 4 it boots fine. But can I really skip a slot like that?? Stumped. Thanks much in advance to the duc collective brain trust!
I've experienced a similar problem on my Quicksilver. Computer won't wake from sleep or boot but with both conditions the CPU is up but the monitor is dead. It's know as "The Sleep of Death". I have a post on it and Lee was kind enough to makesuggestions there. I've been trying different scenarios and have come up with this: The computer sleeps and awakens fine when I have just the core card installed in non-music mode. A soon as I add a mix farm card the sleep of death occurs. randomly. Any ideas why this would happen? Seems odd to me!
I had the same exact problem as you and solved it: There was a long topic on this subject 6 months ago. I went through 2 867DPs until I figured out it was the NVidia video card causing the buss hang. I returned the first thinking it was a bad logic board, the second did the same, and replaced the NVidia card with the ATI 9000 MAC EDITION. It has booted and run flawlessly with a MIX cubed and ATTO SCSI card for 6 months. Im also running 2 LCD monitors off the card with exceptional performance. email me if you need more specifics
Thanks guys, Yup. Its the video card. My old DH Max dual card works perfect in the 867. I think digi should be kind enough to post this possible problem in the compatibility docs. As always. The guys in this forum rule!
Its not a Digi issue, its an NVidia issue. Neither Apple nor Nvidia will accept responsibility. Of you put an ATTO SCSI card in the first slot it will exhibit the same symptoms. Ironically, from what I unserstand Digi tested this system with an ATI card.
