This should be simple, but my brain is so overloaded right now... If there's a simple way to do this, please explain. I want to have one VSTi track, say a bass sound, then record multiple passes of midi, all playing this bass sound, one at a time. I would then comp the best takes. I DO NOT want to use multiple takes / lanes whatever on one track. I can't stand that method. Don't even suggest it, please. So, how can I send the midi from, say three tracks to the same VSTi?

You answered yourself... use sends. They work with midi just about the same as with audio. (Why you won't use takes is beyond me, though.)

HOW do I use sends? Do I NOT have to tell the VSTi track where its midi is coming from? -- Edit- OK, I see now. Pretty simple, after all, just REALLY unlike other DAWS. Thanks. NEW QUESTION: Now that my VSTi track is no longer recieving midi directly, how can I turn OFF all midi-receive at its input? When I go to the midi-input selector window, there is no selection for "none."

Sorry, I could have been more detailed about the midi send... glad you found out yourself. Yep, Reaper is REALLY unlike other apps in quite a lot of aspects... somtimes that's a good thing, sometimes not. (I still don't quite get around the rightclick- marquee...) To your question: Click on the monitoring button until it reads 'off', or untick 'monitor input' in the menue you get when you rightclick on either the record or the monitor button. cheers
