Hi! I'm currently backing up my LOTR special edition. As you probably know, this movie consists of two DVDs. I created one big AVI file of the whole movie containing the DivX video stream. Then I started VirtualDubMod (downloaded latest version yesterday) and opened the AVI file. I added one AC3 audio stream and tried to save the file in matroska format (direct stream copy). The total filesize should be about 4 GB. So far so good - VDubMod starts the saving process and then at 99%, just before finishing, it stops with an error message (I can't remeber it correctly now; if needed I will try again tonight and write down the message). The file created has a file size of 2GB. The missing 2 Gigs are somehow not existing. Can you tell me if this is a limitation of mkv format in general or is this a VirtualDubMod problem? Thanks for your help! Tingletangle Bob P.S. I also tried mkvmerge but it says that it cannot determine the file type of my avi file. Guess I will have to read the manual again. :D P.P.S. I'm using NTFS filesystem, so this is no problem.

If I remember correctly there seems to be an issue with AVI files bigger than 2GB. Not with matroska. Are you able to chop that 4GB AVI into smaller ones? If you do, convert them into MKV and then merge them all together. Hope it helps...
I'm able to create one big (>4GB) AVI file including the audio stream. IIRC these are OpenDML files then. I think the original AVI file format allowed only files <2GB. I could give it a try, though. Thanks.
I think this is related to the 'standard' (common to all platforms) file class we use currently and that doesn't seem able to handle large files. Guess I will have to switch to the windows one (that was created for the DShow filter, and that handles large files).
Glad you could identify the problem so quickly! As you may have noticed, I've added a new entry in your Tracker. Keep up the good work! Tingletangle Bob
