My first post outside newbieland....could anyone direct me to a resource explaining my options when editing midi events? I've found some discussions in which people talk about what Reaper doesn't do in that department, but I'm having trouble finding an explanation of what my actual options are. Some actions I'm trying to do: 1. select a series of midi events (like, 4 bars of a drum pattern) so I can then paste and repeat it. I'm not even sure how to select them! 2. I need to somehow remap the midi events in relation to my keyboard. I play the drum parts, but when Reaper plays them back, they've been moved down 3 or 4 notes and I have to go in and move them up again. How doI just re-map midi to begin with so everything stays on the right key? Those are just some things, but I figured there might be an explanation of working with midi in Reaper somewhere where I haven't seen it yet. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
The user guide includes a chapter with a general introduction to the MIDI Editor though I'm not sure it covers every one of your specific points, It might be a good place to start though: Also, you should be able to use the Action List editor to remap events to keyboard - that's in there too.

Thanks -- I'd gone through the manual (which for the most part is great) but it didn't seem to unlike my current midi needs. I'll investigate the action list -- thanks very much. (Would there be any call for a separate midi forum on this site?) Thanks, M.
No pain M8.If you don't ask...... Keep scanning the forum using the search function for midi etc to see if you can set up your keyboard to match all notes. As for making a midi part loop that's easy. 1: Say you have the fours bars with just a basic rock beat(Can be any beat). Click on it to highlight it and press Ctrl+C(This is the standard Copy short-cut and not just in reaper) to copy it to the clipboard or right click and choose copy. Then place your Play=line(The black one with the little Upside down pyramid on it) to the end of that block make sure you have it lined up exactly and the just keep hitting Ctrl+V(This is the paste short-cut) as many times as you want. Then you can go and edit any part you like. 2:Say you have 8 bars but you only like the last four bars and want to repeat/use those. Move the cursor/play-line to the middle of that block and then press the S key. This will,"Split" the block. Then you can use th above info again to do what you like. 3:To make song editing easy use some,"Markers" like say you have got 8 bars at beginning and then the verse comes in.At the point where the verse starts Right click at that point at the top of Reaper where the time and bars are showing ad choose,"Insert Marker" and you can even name them like I do e.g Intro/Bridge/Verse/Chorus If you have say put four blocks of four bars and you wany them easier to manage then highlight the 1st one and then hold down the Ctrl key and click on the others. This will highlight them all.Now Right click and choose,"Glue" and that will join them all up. You can use your keyboard shortcuts to do all these actions once you know them and that really speeds things up. If you haven't already then bookmark here and read,

While I'm here...after I've been recording, moving and deleting midi files on several tracks, I've noticed that the time line seems to have broken into different-coloured shades of grey-blue-white along lines where i think I had events earlier. Does that mean anything important?
