That's fantastic. I really appreciate the work that went into writing that out, and I'll trust that actually doing it isn't as complex as it sounds. It's a gold mine of info for a Reaper novice -- many many thanks. I should be able to get something with a bit of feel going that way.

I believe also many of the 'old farts' don't know that you can actually have the MIDI editor open for the item you are just recording and actually edit while you're doing so. I think this is an absolutely outstanding undocumented feature. If you have trouble with a step, just keep asking. Most of the steps are actually about getting an item of a defined loop length. The recording part is straightforward apart from the record button. I hope we get one in the MIDI editor sooner than later. Sometimes I forget to uncheck the MIDI note preview, but that's no showstopper, as you can still uncheck it while record runs, delete the wrong notes and go on. No need to create a new item and all that.

Brilliant suggestions for moving midi events around. I know it must all sound basic to guys in the know, but until you're told, you can lose days faffing about. I just find Reaper (and by 'Reaper' I mean the whole community/ethos/phenomenon) pretty amazing. I spent years trying to master the tricks of another sequencer and never really succeeded. But I've developed by leaps and bounds over the last few days thanks to everyone's input on this forum and the sheer elegance of the product itself. I haven't paid for my copy yet -- but certainly will. And I was amazed when the notice came up today saying 'You've been trying this product for 12 days'. In 12 days I've learned an amazing amount and am just putting the finishing touches on a pretty groovy audio/midi track synced to my Roland VS recorder. Thanks so much to designers and forum members alike.
