Sound-on-Sound readers adverts is a good place to buy, usu caveats apply, but I've always done well by them. I've only ever sold to people I know or people who know people I trust. >
Reminds me I have a bunch of stuff to sell and since my Behringer ADA8000 just crapped out (finally after several years of 24/7 operation) I guess I need to buy a replacement.... SOS has always been a good place to buy and sell & has far less than the usual quota of scammers, crooks and doofii (plural of "doofus")
I used to always shop at local independent music stores whenever possible whether new or used, but in the location where I happen to be through the winter this year, 2 of the 3 stores are owned and operated by genuinely arrogant snots, so those are out. Although I rarely ever buy used, I notice lately that even the big online retailers offer used and demos from time to time. I really have to say, the quality of customer service, expertise and just overall atmosphere of Sweetwater just can't be beat and is head and shoulders above the whole goofy Guitar Center scene. I think its sweetwater.com, and I really suggest you give them a try sometime. They always seem to maintain good inventory and selection, too.
My apologies, I thought Sweetwater was one of those that shipped overseas. I guess some do and some don't. Is that Anderton's still going strong over there across the pond? Or perhaps Strings and Things sells used gear as well? Best wishes!
I buy and sell everything on Ebay, never lost a penny, so anything i have bought and sold i pretty much got to use for free, never had any issues with gear off paypal (Once was sent a broken Juno 2 and even though the seller refused to refund, Paypal just took the money off him and he received his broken Juno 2 back) The feedback system is very powerful and nowadays nearly everybody wants to keep their good feedback ;)

I have been wary of eBay but as you say, PayPal is a pretty secure way to deal so maybe I should just do that. What are the fees like? Some of the items I want to sell are pretty expensive so losing a percentage has also put me off eBay to a degree. Thanks everyone for the help so far :)

I've bought keyboards and pedals off ebay, the main downfall is you can never really tell what condition something is in, but i've never felt shafted from it. The main lesson is if a price seems too good to be true, then it is! Posting things like guitars is something I've always worried about as well, probably worth getting the insurance from the post office if you do that. Gumtree is fairly good as well since it sorts it by local area and is free to use, or see if your local area has a local classifieds website (there are a couple in Sheffield where I am). Also probably worth going to the local practice rooms/studios/guitar shops and putting adverts up on noticeboards.

To be honest it's the selling side of things that concerns me more than anything, some of the items I want to move on are expensive and delicate so it's always been nice in the past where I could hand them over in person knowing for certain they hadn't been damaged in transit etc. I just need to man up and sign up for eBay though I think lol Thanks for all the help guys, as always the Reaper community is here to help out :)
Oh, btw if you want to do it the old fashion way without the interference and/or assurance of Paypal etc, try Craigslist? I don't know how well it's taken off outside of the US, but atleast in the States it's the equivalent of what advertising in a local paper used to be before the internet killed print media.
