Hi everybody - this may be a problem linked to a previous post of mine regarding the O2 Sensor. This time the car died on me on the M4 - again cruising at 70MPH and no warning - the engine shut down on me in a steady fashion - ie- it didn't just conk out! Got it to the hard shoulder - left it a couple of minutes after emitting a tirade of abuse about the world in general. It started first time - and off I went. Suprisingly there were no warning lights or messages. Got to my destination safely. On the return journey through Cardiff city centre (ie Stop/Start) the engine warning light came on - there did not appear to be any issues with the engine and got back to work. The engine warning light remains lit - yet there are no messages stored to tell me what is happening - I was expecting "Emmission Service Required" but there isnt one. As a guess- is this the O2 sensor playing up again? Or has anybody else had this happen and it turned out to be something different? I really would appreciate some advice - but it I am resigned to the fact that I will need to pay a visit to the dealers. Incidently - I have half a tank of BP Ultimate in the tank - and I drive a 2001 S60 2.0T SE - now on 69182 miles and have had the ETM clean and software download. Thanking you all in advance!

Yes, agree get the codes read, nothing may be getting displayed on the information screen, not everything is, but the code/s will have been strored. but please stop driving around! You could be causing untold amounts of damage ( not likely but possible), and you really don't want to be driving a vehicle which conks out, it may happen next as your pulling out a busy junction, or overtaking etc.. vipes

Thanks for your replies With regards to the petrol - half a tank of Tesco beginning of February - followed by one and half tankfulls of BP Ultimate. Took it on a good run from Cardiff to Walsall and back - no problems followed by short regular journeys of 16 miles a day for the following two weeks. Just to clear it up - I blipped the throttle to 3000 RPM - and straight away it died - Then at 2000RPM - again it died then let it idle for a minute or so and it was rough sounding/idling. However - it is now in the dealership - and I'm waiting for their verdict - incidently I did drive it up there and there was no problem this time - Revs were rock steady and there was no hesitation at all - although the check engine light remained on. I'll keep you posted on what happens- just in case anybody else has/gets a similar problem.
