hi! first post here, so please pardon my ignorance! I currently have PTLE 6.4 with the Digi002. I also have Logic Express 7. I'm using a Power Mac G4. I would like to know how I can utiliza the "firewire" connection of my Digi002 - when recording in Logic 7. Here's what I've done, but doesn't seem to work: -Downloaded the Core Audio Drivers (6.7) - BTW-I'm running OSX 10.3 -Went to my Sys Prefs (Audio) and selected to use the "Digidesign Hardware (002)" as my INPUT -Went to my Sys Prefs (Audio) in Logic and selected my Digi002 as the INPUT for my audio as well -Re-started Logic while my 002 is powered up (it is NOT in STANDALONE MODE) -At that point, my 002 says "Working....." in the LED. Nothing else happens! It stays in that position ("Working...") and that is pretty much it! I can use the 002 in Standalone Mode, and have an analog connection to the MAC, but I would really like to have a digital connection via the FIREWIRE if I can. Is there anybody who can tell what I've done wrong, or haven't done @ all? Is it even possible to accomplish using the FIREWIRE connection with Logic? thanks in advance for your time & assistance with this issue!

It sounds like you're doing everything correctly. You could try trashing the Audio Preferences for Logic Express and then go in and re-assign the audio driver from within LA Express. You can also repair permissions on the system drive. I don't know if the Core Audio drivers will work with Logic Express. Even the Logic Pro users complain about how bad the Digi drivers are - if they can get them to work at all. I can't get 6.5.2 or 6.7 to work with Digital Performer 4.5. You may want to ask over in the Logic forum on I think I'm going to buy an M-Audio Audiophile 192 for DP instead of waiting for Digi to fix the one they have. M-Audio makes pretty good Core Audio drivers that work with just about anything.

For what it's worth, there are quite a few complaints about M-Audio drivers on the Logic User's Group too. It's worth asking around - RME, Metric Halo, MOTU 828 MKII and Presonus FirePod seem to all be getting pretty good reports on the LUG. The Digi drivers are definitely fragile wih Logic (I'm on Logic version 6.4.3 still). It's always a good idea to ensure that the sample rate set in Logic's audio preferences matches that in the Digi Core Audio Manager - sometimes they get out of whack. If you're operating at a low buffer level in order to play softsynths etc be prepared to put up with your fair share of clicks & pops. And when it's mixdown time, up your buffer level to at least 512k. My experience also shows that having mail, safari and/or the internal modem connected can cause annoying sample rate error messages, so it's best to leave those apps closed while using Logic.

Make sure "software monitoring" is enabled, and you need to ensure that you've record enabled the audio track for which you've selected your relevant input. May be time to go through the manual step by step to ensure you haven't missed anything. It's amazing how often I miss the obvious right under my nose in these situations!
