A guy called me and told me I'd be able to use the printer port (serial out?) on my G4 to send midi (via a $40 Midi-man) to my BRC so that I could transfer audio both ways --in synch-- to / from my ADAT. True?

Preston, If the G4 had a serial port, and if Pro Tools/Digi001 transmitted MTC, it might be possible to do this. I tried with a USB/Midisport/BRC/ADAT connection and it did not work because of the lack of MTC. Digidesign has implied that this will be fixed in the future. Let's hope.

Why wait for the future guys. It will work right now but you have to have a seperate midi interface. Currently, the 001 interface will not send out MTC from it's port - that is correct. But Pro Tools software will send out MTC via a third party midi interface. As far as your BRC and ADATS are concerned. Simply connect your BRC midi in and out to the midi interface of your choice and configure OMS. Now in the session setup window inside pro tools choose MTC to port. Your BRC will be an option (if you have configured OMS correctly). In hardware setup choose optical as the sync source and your ready to go. Make sure the optical out is connected from your adat to the 001 PCI card optical input or pro tools will keep asking you to verify that there is valid sync. Also, in the session setup window in PTLE software you can set a session start time. In this case the start time will be based on your adat and BRC settings. B Carter Digidesign

MarkDann, For $64,000 I'll come setup the system and make it work for you and spring for lunch .. For free, I can tell you of some gear to check out on your own. At namm I spent some time at the ardvark booth talking with their rep. They make a box (can't remember the exact name now) that has rock solid clock as well as smpte inputs - mtc output - various clock outputs. AES was 1 of the clock outputs and they have a high quaity convertor to change it from AES to S/PDIF which the 001 can lock to. This will give you 1 box that takes care of sync for all your devices. Word clock to the BRC - S/PDIF to the 001 and it's getting it's positional reference from SMPTE and generating clock based on that SMPTE reference Also, there's the digital time piece which has S/PDIF outs (there is not a USB version currently). This seems to work okay but I'd take my chances with the ardsync box. Anyone else having the same problems locking adats to the 001? B Carter Digidesign

Hi, Slightly off topic, but relevant to me. Prior to buying the digi 001 I was still in the land of Atari using my trusty old ST. I din't have a BRC for my ADATs but instead used a JL Cooper Datasync to sync the two together using both MTC and Midi clock. Is it possible to use this set-up with the digi card and my G3? Thanks in advance for any advice. Les
