Hello, I'm new to Reaper and Midi in general. Here's my environment: Windows 7 Professional Reaper 4.78 - 32 bit (got same results when I had the 64 bit version installed) Akai MPX8 VicTsing USB to Midi cable My goal is to play certain songs that are loaded on the Akai MPX8 and assigned to pads at pre-determined times. A lot of what I need is working already. For example, when I'm in the REAPER UI, I can trigger the song to play on the MPX8. I had to play C2 on Channel 10 to activate Pad1 on the MPX8. However I have a problem with automating that in a script. I've been using the following command from a Windows DOS prompt: "C:\Program Files (x86)\REAPER\reaper.exe" -renderproject "C:\Users\Phil\Documents\REAPER Media\Test1.RPP" Test1.RPP is the same project that I use successfully in the UI. However when I run this from a DOS Command prompt, REAPER loads in a new window, but the window closes quickly and the MPX8 never plays a sound. Question1: Am I doing something wrong in the command line? Why does it close without playing anything? Question2: In the REAPER UI, when I play the MPX8 Pad1 by using note C2 (Note 36), it only plays the one measure I've created in REAPER. I have the MPX8 set to TRIG=LP (continuous loop), but the Midi signal from REAPER doesn't seem to activate the TRIG parameter on the MPX8. I tried to use the loop button in REAPER but it plays the first measure OK, doesn't play for what seems to be a full measure, then repeats that pattern. So I get short bits of music interrupted with an equal amount of silence. Have I set something up wrong? Question 3: Once I solve the silence problem in question 2, I need to have the song play for 12 minutes then stop. Would I just copy the Midi Item until it reaches 12 minutes? An alternative might be that if I am able to get the MPX8 to play continuously via the TRIG=LP parameter, is there a way to stop the RenderProject command? Thanks for looking at this. Phil
Should the RenderProject parameter be used in the DOS command line to simulate pressing the Play button on the REAPER screen? Thanks for checking. Phil
Hi again, it's been years since I ran the Command Line, but I think I got it to work. However, what it did is open Reaper, then rendered a file, and closed Reaper. Heh heh, I have no idea where this file went. Where did you get "-renderproject"? There are other folks on this forum, that know a lot more about this than I do, who could probably get you squared away fairly quickly. :)

Hi Todd, I have four bell songs that are loaded onto the MPX8. They're all a minute or two long. They're assigned to PADs 1-4 (samples) as follows: Headington.wav is 0:56 Hungerford.wav is 1:01 Titlehurst.wav is 2:48 Whittney.wav is 1:20 So you're saying the simplest thing is to control the length of this in Reaper. That makes sense to me. So I would have to adjust the Beats Per Minute (BPM) to match, let's say, 56 seconds and then repeat it about 12 times? Also, I wonder if there's a way to pass "REAPER.EXE" a particular keyboard key from the command line. If I could pass it a space bar, then that should trigger it. I'll see what I can come up with there. I thought I saw something about individual keystrokes from a command line somewhere. I'll look into that. I'll try to figure out the BPM and repeat thing as well as the command line / space bar. I may ask for more help in a while. :-) Thanks again for your time. Phil
