hi, i have a steinberg ur22, but have only been using it as an interface when recording to my laptop, or secondary computer (pc). my main machine (pc win 7 64) has an echo mia soundcard (pci) in it, and i have been recording through my behringer desktop mixer. what i'd like to try is using the steinberg as a mic-pre/interface in the main machine, but am wondering how i'd be able to monitor everything that way. can i still get the monitoring (outs) to go via the echo, and then monitor through the behringer (my bx5a d's are sent out from the behringer as well). does any of this make sense? :) i'm not sure i even know if this is possible. i can just plug headphones into the steinberg, or even plug my studio monitors into it as well, but i'd like to just test out the mic pres on the steinberg on the main machine. or, can i take the outs from the steinberg (1/4" balanced) and feed them to one of the stereo channels of the behringer, thereby bypassing the mic pres on the desk mixer? or would they have to go to aux ins? again, the goal is to bypass the behringer mic pres. there are no channel inserts on this board.

the steinberg ur22 is a 2 in 2out interface with midid in out if I remember correctly. And you want to use the mic pres on it and be able to record using the mic pres on that interface. You would also like to be able to hook up your monitors and also monitor via headphones. Well hook it up to your pc put your monitors on the line outs or if you prefer leave the monitors hooked up via your other interface. and use the phones out on the steinberg ur22 for your headphones it should work fine if using both interfaces you will have to use asio4all as your device driver as it will allow you to use both interfaces at the same time

i probably wasn't clear enough. i only have the one interface (ur22). the pc has a pci soundcard installed (echo mia), which has been fed audio via the behringer mixer, using its on board pres. the steinberg is usb. i can just use it alone, but i'd like to keep the monitors plugged into the behringer. i guess i can just swap the cords out and monitor through the steinberg alone, but i was seeing if i could use it (more or less) as a mic pre alone. the mixer doesn't have inserts, so i guess i would have to take the outs from the steinberg into the aux in on the behringer. or i am i really make too much work there? :)

you can keep the monitors plugged into the mixer connected to the pc soundcard and still use the steinberg ur22 as your audio input. You will need to use asio4all to do this but it will work. I have my pc soundcard, a usb and a pcl soundcard hooked up to my pc and use all three interfaces together without issue
