Hello, I just read through the manual and now I am here... I have a problem. When I record an Audio track there is a delay from when I speak to when I hear it through my headset. My other recording software does not do this. It is very annoying...lol I am sure it is something simple but I could not find out how to stop it. I noticed that there is also a small gap in the wavform graphic before my voice appears... If that helps...hehe Any help would be most appreciated!! Jam

I was reading in some other areas and saw stuff about latancy but was not sure if that is what I was seeing. Why is protools the only software that has this problem. I got some software called Quartz Audio Master and it does not have this problem. It makes it impossible to listen to a track and lay down another track along side. I also read about setting up a delay to account for this. I guess I will try this. but the big problem is if I sing or play I hear the vocal through my mouth and then hear the echo in the head set.... I was amazed when I heard it since I did not have this trouble with QAM. Has anyone heard of this program? jam

Every digital recording system suffers from latency. One system more than another. All the things you do (eq, level-change, mix...) will take some time. When using ptfree i think more time is needed because protools has to exchange info with the wave-driver in your system.....and guess what?....that takes time too... There ARE workarounds for latency....you could use an external mixer to mix the output of your soundcard together with the signal you are feeding it....only for your own monitoring. I also heard people that had a soundcard that could do that trick internaly....

There should be a workaround for this on ALL soundcards (at least all cards i've ever had, and they're nothing special.) Here's how it works. When you double click the little speaker in your taskbar, it brings up "Volume Control" for playback. Now, make sure that there is a "Line Balance" control. If NOT, then go to Options->Properties, and down at the bottom, check the "Line" checkbox, then hit OK. Now, you'll be able to control the volume that the line-in sound is played. Make sure its not muted. When you record with ProTools, MUTE the track(s) you're recording on. This way, your input is being recorded onto disk (or into RAM) but the stuff that's being recorded is not played back through your speakers. What IS played back is only the sound that is being DIRECTLY routed from your line-in to your line-out, not the stuff that goes through all your sound-processing effects/plugins/processors. To control recording levels, open the Volume Control, go to Options->Properties, and click the "Recording" button. Make sure "Line" is checked below. Hit OK. Now you can edit the RECORDING level, which effects ProTools, but should have no effect on what you hear through your speakers when recording. Hope that helps. Peace
