There should be a workaround for this on ALL soundcards (at least all cards i've ever had, and they're nothing special.) Here's how it works. When you double click the little speaker in your taskbar, it brings up "Volume Control" for playback. Now, make sure that there is a "Line Balance" control. If NOT, then go to Options->Properties, and down at the bottom, check the "Line" checkbox, then hit OK. Now, you'll be able to control the volume that the line-in sound is played. Make sure its not muted. When you record with ProTools, MUTE the track(s) you're recording on. This way, your input is being recorded onto disk (or into RAM) but the stuff that's being recorded is not played back through your speakers. What IS played back is only the sound that is being DIRECTLY routed from your line-in to your line-out, not the stuff that goes through all your sound-processing effects/plugins/processors. To control recording levels, open the Volume Control, go to Options->Properties, and click the "Recording" button. Make sure "Line" is checked below. Hit OK. Now you can edit the RECORDING level, which effects ProTools, but should have no effect on what you hear through your speakers when recording. Hope that helps. Peace
