Greetings Forum I recently bought a used XC90 SE D5, and my wife and I love it, very pleased indeed. I wanted to ask about a strange noise I hear when braking hard. What it sounds like is a significant quantity of water sloshing and rushing under the floor, from the rear of the car to the front. It seems to be more obvious from the front passenger seat, the sound is intermitant, and only lasts for about a second. I was wondering if it might be trapped rainwater in the near side sill? Have any of you experienced something like this, or have any advice on how to get the water out? Thanks Nunc
Nunc, The most likely cause are plugged sunroof drains or kinked hoses you need to take care of this as soon as possible as it will cause damage to the yaw sensor for directional stability system . If you just purchased the car have them fix it , the dealer should be well informed of this problem . Mister T.
Hi Mister T Can you tell me more about the problem? The dealer I bought the car from is just a sales operation, I doubt I'll get much joy out of him. I have found a helpful independant Volvo specialist near my home, but he is more used to older Volvos, so I think that I'll need to point him in the right direction. Nunc

Sloshing about? May be water in the sills, Have you been Green Laning recently? There may be crud plugging the drain holes in the sill and as for the previous poster, That too. Something thats got to be addressed, The paintwork will start to sweat and itll be living down to the Ford built trademark, TINWORM!
Nunc , The water is under the floor , the first thing to do is get the water leakage stopped and where we find the problem is at the sunroof drains , have your indy remove the 2 A pillar covers there are 2 bolts under the plastic caps at the grab handle . They will see the drain tubes they exit the body at a rubber elbow that plugs into the A pillar this is where they plug up , remove them and blow them out , open the sunroof and before refitting blow out the hoses . The pipe is sometimes a little loose at the elbow and may need a little sealer . The seat will have to be unbolted and tilted back carefully and the carpet removed to be able to soak up the water , you will also have to dry out the sponge under lay . Mister T.

Hi Nick That last post is usefull, sound like it's a known problem, although it seems suprising that amount of water could get in. Still, I remember a very long wet cycle race and when I got home there was all this sloshing coming from the rear wheel and I found the deep rim was full of water, it having got in through the spoke holes. I rang the rest of the team and theirs were all the same. Check your post box for an alternative sugestion and the info you asked for. Do you leave the car outside by the way? Roy
Don't want to sound negative but with all the rain and flood damage in the UK over the summer are you sure this isn't a flood damaged car which has had the minimum work done to make it run again and then passed into the trade. There are a lot of cars about at present to which this has happened. Take it back to the supplying dealer and get them to sort it properly.
