Hello! I'm just getting started with Reaper, but have been using Sonar since its beginning, currently leaving X3. I'm using a TASCAM FW1804 interface. Audio is working like a champ, and I'm not using it for MIDI. Using MOTU MIDI Express XT-USB MIDI interface. When I put the track into Record:MIDI, and start the record, I get awful static with playback. I can record MIDI notes. Once I stop recording, the noise stops. If I don't disarm recording on the track, I will hear the static during playback. If I do disarm recording on the track, the noise is gone, and I can hear what I recorded. Interestingly, while audio with the TASCAM is great in Reaper, it makes all kinds of digital chatter (like it's not synced) with Sonar. The MIDI is working perfectly in Sonar. Thanks in advance! cv

Sounds like a latency issue. For starters, check your Power Options control panel and switch it to High Performance if it's not already. That alone can make a huge difference if it doesn't solve the problem entirely. You may also need to increase the buffer for the ASIO driver. Try that and report back. Also, welcome to the Reaper forums. We're happy to have you!

Thanks and Kudos to you, DbyG, this seems to have solved it! Happy to be here, as well. Imet a guy working who told me about Reaper, and I decided to give it a go. As a fairly serious hobbyist, it'sa great solution for me, I'm just starting home album #3 with a friend, so it's a great time to clean house and start fresh! I' m sure I'll find a few more thimgs to pester people about, but I'll RTFM as well. Thanks again!
