I have switched away from country music since it pretty much makes me throw up these days. I'm referring to the major markets of course. The song is "Whatever We Had" I guess it's like an electric Modern Blues or Rock or Pop...or beats the shit out of me.
Hey, Doughboy, This is great all round, loved it. Really well written tune and the sax is icing on the cake. One small suggestion, I found the back up vox a little muddy, HPF them more? Nice job!

Terribly terrif! Awfully awesome. What genre? I could hear shades of Tom Petty, David Bowie (who played his own alto sax btw), the Boss, and even Elvis Costello. Maybe something too from the arrangements of Curtis Mayfield and Van Morrison. You have succeeded in doing something we all wish we could do. That is - take an explosion from inside us and contain it in a short, disciplined piece of music. Wow.
Wow...thanks for the nice compliments guys. Really appreciate that. I play everything except the sax. That's my pal JazzAddict from another site. He just moved to Washington DC and is looking for a good band if anyone is in that area. I also have EZ drummer for the drums. Muddy back ground vocals.....hmmmmm....maybe this is what bugs me a bit.
thanks guys. Bob....ya know....I like to think I'm pretty good at getting my mixes to "pretty fair to so-so okay" but from that point there is actually a whole level of expertise that eludes me. For example I agree with you, but I know from trial and error, that if I raise this vocal even 1 millionth of a stinking db, then suddenly my vocal will be WAAAAAY to loud. Same problem with the sax. I actually spend so much time trying to perfect my mixes (with imperfect techniques) that should I just have spent all that time writing songs, that my song writing skills would be on another level. Similar to when I was a teenager, and I couldn't decide if I wanted to wind up the worlds greatest guitar player or the worlds greatest singer, soooo would spend months just doing guitar work. Then ..... I would realize I'm just not that good, sooooo, I would switch to working on my voice for a couple of months. Consequently, I ended up a half ass guitar player and a half ass singer....HAAAAAAW HAW HAW HAW SNORT........but, you see the point I'm making. I just don't have the whole package as a mixer.
Dude, your new style rocks !! but is this your new style or is it just your style. Personaly i think trying to write in a certain style/genre is way to limiting and will literaly crush your creativity, so i say just write and whatever comes out is your style. Of course this is just mho and could also be nothing more than the ramblings of a lunatic :D Either way i really like this song and sax is just so cool, your very lucky to have a buddy sax player. Cheers
