I just want to get this out of my system. Why does it take the new version of ProTools SO DAMN LONG to close a session? I'm running a souped up G5 so it's not like I don't have any firepower. I just sit there waiting for what seems like hours while PT 'updates region groups', blah blah blah. Jesus, my G3 running ProTools v5 felt faster than this lumbering beast. Rant over. Jeff

Hi, My large HD3 accel sessions close in about 4-5 seconds! Do you have other apps running in the background? Do you have Norton or any other anti virus/maintainance stuff running. Chris

If you save before you close, it shouldn't take it more than a few seconds to close the session. If you didn't save, it has a procedure to make sure everything is there when you come back.

Just curious. How much RAM do you have? I just closed a session in under a second. The thing about it is, that didn't seem abnormal for me. G5 dual 2 3.5 GB RAM OS 10.4.6 HD2accel PT 7.2cs1 ProControl

Well, this is another one of those responses to the following complaint - "When I close a large session, I get a SWOD and everyone things Pro Tools is going to crash - makes everyone nervous." So we put in a progress bar. The close time isn't any slower - it's just shown in the progress bar. Of course, we've gotten complaints other than yours about the progress bar (sigh). When Pro Tools 7.3 comes out, you should notice some some optimizations for opening and closing HD sessions. Danny Caccavo Product Manager Digidesign
