Here's the deal.... I want to find the tempo of "Like A Rolling Stone" by Dylan. I know the recording shifts tempo a little bit. I want to import that song into ptle, and create a new "PHAT" beat around it. I'm doing this for the sake of learning only..... I'm starting to work with bands and I'd like to have some new weapons up my sleve. Any help would be great. A-Dub

You need to tell us which version of Pro Tools you are using.

import song into pt. then try 'tabbing' to a peak that is a solid down beat. (make sure the 'tab to peak' on top left is pressed.) seperate region. then go a full eight bars later, to the down beat of 9th bar. tab to it's peak. seperate region. highlight the region of eight bars. select edit/'identify beat' and put start at bar 1 beat 1, and end at bar9 beat 1. the tempo will appear and pt grid will lock to it. works best for straight hip hop, dylan drifts, but give it a try.

Switch to Conductor Mode... Find the first bar of the song -- Ctrl+I (Identify Beat) and Identify it as Bar 1 Beat 1 -- Find Bar 2 Beat 1 and Identify that -- You'll now have the tempo for the first bar, to average out the rest of the song... Identify Bars 16, 32, etc. You now have a tempo map for the song. Rail
