Construction pack- A zip file of pre-made loops designed to allow users with minimal effort to create and arrange a song. If some of you dont know, There is now a big market for construction packs and it has plagued the electronic world. Im having a hard time understanding the nerve to use this stuff and claim it as your own. I encourage good music, but i am kind of heart broken by this mentality. It completely strips the artist of originality and innovation. The generic arrangement's and obviously crafted loops make me cringe. I tell people If you have no intention of being even slightly original, then go for it. Recently ive been asked to review several tracks from an artist ill leave un-named. Not only did he not even try to mangle the loops and hits, he didnt add or change anything at all. All he did was throw a limiter on the master and crank the gain. Even more surprising, his comment and play count is HIGH. His last track has gotten over 4000 plays and is riddled with comments on how much they love the track. Great. They love the track. Good music is good music right? But i have a feeling the praise would be less if the track was titled " This is not my work, All i did was turn it up". Why do i care? Because it like adding water to a fresh can of diet coke. Dont fuck with my coke :) Anyways i guess none of this really matters in the end because after all, listeners do like it. What do you guys think?

We will come to the point that Apple will throw out packages like this containing 2000 loops of various instruments and a player, that varies the tempo and a random generator who throws in the loops into an endless 8-track-player. People will start that thing in the morning and let it noodle away til they go to sleep. They had "music" all day long. Once in a while some loops are changed, lets say once a week there are 100 loops new thrown in, another 100 are deselected and deleted. Wonderful alternative music-machine, you can listen to it for 100$/year. Maybe I should do such a thing before someone else gets rich from this idea. Seriously? The problem is the uneducated listener. What do these people know about music? They havent developed a taste, let alone a sense for musical content. In schools nearly nowhere is an education in music, in "listening to music" or "reception of music". So what should we expect from uneducated listeners? Nothing.

This has been going on since dx7s made presets popular. In the mid to late 90s, you could buy (over the counter!) Sample CD ROMs full of canned loops. These CDs were legit. The quality, compared to today, was atrocious, and yet they sold like hotcakes.

Haha really? I have a feeling it was much harder then that... I know what your saying though. But i think there is skill involved in remixing. But im not talking about that. Im talking about literally pre-made songs...

Yeah agree. Just taking one step further, I see the concept is same. May be I am too old school...

I enjoy sound design so I like to use my own synth sounds but there are people who just buy synths and use the presets. Obviously they're not using as much of their own work as me but I don't look down on them (much) for it. Then again I sometimes use samples and even loops. And though it feels a little like cheating it doesn't really bother me. But there are probably people who will look down on me because of it. Putting together loops etc is perhaps more like collage than painting but both of those are accepted as art forms. And it must mean something that people who make music these days are more likely to be called producers than musicians. Different skill sets, that's all. Steve

I need to get a cheap and small keyboard controller for tweaking parts at home that will fit right on my existing desk, and I thought if I have to have a bunch of knobs or faders on it to make changes to plugins without going to the screen, hey, I'll give it a chance. So I found a well viewed youtube review of the model I was considering and watched the section about the knobs and sliders. But instead of showing how you can use them as a productivity aid the guy showed over and over again how you can twist this knob and go blleeeeeep while a song is playing or go bang bang bangity on the pads as a way of adding spice to a song that I'm pretty sure its producer didn't think needed any more spice. Every aspect of the controller was given a thumbs up or down based on how whether a DJ would like to use it while waving his hand in the air. How did the keys feel to play? I mean, it's a keyboard. Didn't mention it. It's not that I feel that stuff shouldn't exist, just that it should exist in another world other than the one I'm in.
