IMHO AM synths are the equivalent of a vsti with a hardware interface - i think your average Reaper user probably has their own preferred analog modeling software set up to work with their favorite MIDI controller, so the all-hardware version is somewhat redundant in these cases. I actually own an EA1, it's a fun little instrument. Wish i had the ER to go with it, as I haven't found a satisfactory analog-modeling drum machine vSTi yet. And whats up with Korg and putting tubes in things lately? Their latest electribe has a tube, they just released this monster keyboard with a tube... it seems like such a blatant marketing gimmick, and yet i can't help but also think its awesome.
The Electribe MX with tubes Rocks. I wouldn't trade it for a hundred vst's. The tubes are kinda groovy and add some boost and yes they are also somewhat of a gimmick. The MX however is a future classic grab one while they are cheap.
ive sold my emx1 and my sx1, it gets mad boring running stuff through the same filters and fx, had um since 05' , got like 20 offers on craigslist here in phx when i sold um, and they were both heavily used, damaged, and the sx1 had a chip repaired inside, compared to the zoom streetbox i got, which is only 175 bucks, basically has a 36 track seq up to 100 bars on each track??? the korgs have very limited tracks, i think 13 on the emx1, with an 8 bar loop max!!! 8 bars..... the zoom box also has like 800 drum sounds built in, one thing i did like, is running the roland fantom through the korgs for the tube sound, but the thing is, you dont get the snap outta the fantom until the sound clips, and if it clips while running through the tubs it sounded distorted
This vst allows you to use the Electribe mx as a polyphonic synth as apposed to mono and opens up some interesting arp options. I will state it one more time the Electribe Mx out of all the Electribes is a future classic and is cheap for the time being. When they are hard to find expect the price to go up.
